Living Green means that we are living more environmentally conscious. Living green means we are thinking about our natural environment and making choices in our daily life that reduce pollution, conserve resources, conserve energy, reduce consumption and waste, and protect the earth’s ecological balance.
Living green means taking steps, whether big or small, to minimize the harm you do to the environment. Living green means practicing the R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) as much as possible. Living green is not hard - we have some tips for you and your family to get started. |
Waste Reduction is the practice of using less material and energy. Reducing waste preserves our natural resources. For example: If you don’t buy paper plates or use paper plates, you don’t have to throw them away. The purchasing choices you make can create more trash or reduce the amount of waste you have to throw in your garbage can.
We all can reduce waste by Reusing and Recycling. In Fremont, we Recover some waste materials to create another useful product. After we have Reduced, Reused, and Recycled, we Landfill the rest of our waste. |

Conservation is the prevention of a wasteful use of a resource. Water, trees, air, natural environments, land, soil, animals, energy, etc. are all resources that we should not waste or harm. We all can play a part in conserving the resources we share.

We all have a responsibility to keep our town beautiful and litter-free. We all make garbage, around 4.5 pounds per person per day. That means that 675,000 tons of garbage is produced each day in the United States of America or over 246 million tons of trash per year. That is a lot of trash! If some of it gets loose, it becomes litter. Some of the trash we create each day is hazardous and must be handled carefully. Everyone makes trash. The trash you make is your responsibility. Be a good citizen and make sure your trash is handled properly. Explore the information in Eco Lesson #4 to learn how you can become a better citizen and keep your town beautiful and litter-free.
